Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is one of the oldest types of health treatments in existence today.
Hydrotherapy works because of two properties inherent in water: Temperature
and Buoyancy.
Which one best describes you?
Read each of these and see how hydrotherapy effects your entire system, no matter
your affliction... And, see why chemicals in commercial spas in hotels and basic
posted rules involved, don't necessarily apply to your home spa.
Arthritis
Controlling Pain:
Over 40 million people are affected by arthritis. A warm soak in a Softub spa relieves
the pain of muscle and joint stiffness in four ways.
- Buoyancy of water, reduces 90% of body weight.
- Warm water improves blood circulation.
- Brain releases endorphins in to blood stream. That is a natural pain reliever.
- Gentle massage created by the Softub spa jets loosens knots of tension and enhances
the muscle's range of motion.
Diabetes
Controlling Diabetes:
Many people develop Type 2 diabetes, also refrred to as "adult onset diabetes."
Watching our weight and moderate exercise is an essential part of managing Type
2 diabetes. There are many ways that managing diabetes can improve through hydrotherapy
in a Softub Spa.
- Exercise, using water aerobics in a barrier free seating Softub Spa.
- Stress Management, with a warm soak and pulsating jets in a Softub Spa.
- Limited Joint Mobility, is helped with hydrotherapeutic massage.
- Improved Blood Flow, a major factor related to cardiovascular diseases. Soaking
n the warmth of a Softub Spa dilates blood vessels and drops the blood pressure
and stimulates the formation of new tissue.
Hydrotherapy's positive effect on blood circulation can be especially helpful for
diabetics who are unable to exercise.
Fibromyalgia
Controlling pain:
Hydrotherapy appears to be particularly effective for those suffering from FMS known
as fibromyalgia syndrome.
- Reduce muscle pain.
- Improve sleep disorders.
- Increase mobility and reduce stiffness.
- Reduce pain in the ligaments and tendons.
A variety of studies involving fibromyalgia patients and hydrotherapy have been
performed. In one study, fibromyalgia patients were given therapeutic whirlpool
baths twice a week for six weeks. Upon conclusion of the study, the patients involved
had better muscle and joint funciton, reduced pain symptoms and improved sleep quality.
Stress
Controlling Stress:
Hydrotherapy appears to be particularly effective for those suffering from everyday
stressful events in their lives.
- Taking time for yourself: As the warmed blood circulates, it travels deep into muscles,
easing the tension. At the same time it carries nutrients to muscles and washes
toxins out of the system.
- Before and after Exercise: A regular exercise regimen is also a highly recommended
and effective way to manage stress. During exercise, muscles release lactic acid
as an energy source. Build up of lactic acid during exercise contributes to soreness
and fatigue.
- Heals: Mental and physical effects of stress.
- Reduces: Headaches, ulcers, high blood pressure, insomnia.
Stress can come from anywhere: Our jobs, society and even our family. Stress isn't
always the result of negative situations. Busy lifestyles, prosperity and positive
changes can add to our stress levels. Whle we cannot avoid stress, we can manage
stress and protect our health. The hydrotherapy provided by a Softub Spa offers
the perfect combination of elements for healing the mental and physical effects
of stress.
Commercial Spas in Hotels have many rules and are usually heavily sanitized. Rules
such as "stay out of spa if you have diabetes, heart conditions or high blood pressure"
merely protect them in case of injury. In all fairness, they are trying to prevent
legal battles, and although you should check with your doctor, people with these
afflictions can typically use a hot tub with no problem.
Diabetes patients are highly benefited as mentioned above especially with circulation
enhancement and lowering stress, which levels your blood sugar levels.
High Blood Pressure candidates should not get in extreme hot water for longer than
a certain period of time, usually about 20 minutes, but if water is at or near body
temperature, you could stay in a spa all day if you want.
Heart Patients follow the same requirements as blood pressure and diabetic patients,
so just check with your doctor and find out if temperature or the time you might
be allowed in a tub.
As for chemicals in these tubs, there are so many users in a hotel that they typically
over sanitize these tubs with chlorine and you walk away with dry, itchy skin. In
your own tub, you not only have an Ozone system that reduces chemical needs, but
you also keep levels much lower to where you should not smell, nor feel the effects
of the sanitizers. If you are truly allergic to chlorine, we have different non-chlorine
sanitizers that will also do the job.
